Tiffany McClain

Hi, I’m Tiffany. My work with Momentum centers on inclusion and equity in the context of organizational development, with a focus on developing the frameworks and tools that support implementation of organizational policies and practices. I am equally adept at the big-picture thinking needed to weave equity, diversity, and inclusion into strategic plans and assessments, as I am at the day-to-day management and execution of projects and interventions that help organizations to advance their equity and inclusion goals. A people-informed strategist, you will see me most often working with internal collaboration groups curated for special initiatives and projects, DEIA committees, listening sessions and interviews.

I am a queer, lesbian black woman who grew up crossing race, class, and geographic borders every day from the age of 6 as a participant in St. Louis, Missouri’s school desegregation program during the 80s and 90s. As a result of that experience, I developed a lifelong distaste for commuting and incurable nomadic tendencies, but also a default sensitivity to “the outsider” in any space, an early understanding of the nuances of privilege, and the complicated impact of policy solutions that don’t address root causes.

My professional roots are planted in the nonprofit sector with combined experience in equity and inclusion leadership and practice, social justice philanthropy, and LGBTQ+community organizing. With a BA in African-American Studies and an MA in History, I also consider myself to be a historian at heart with a deep understanding of how histories of settler-colonialism, slavery, and other forms of physical and cultural violence continue to impact our day-to-day lives and how we show up in the world but also hold solutions to our healing.

My superpower is in not having all the answers, but in facilitating spaces in which all participants–regardless of title or years on the job--can apply their unique brilliance or experience to help solve a problem, build something new, or help define a vision for success.
